The 2 point lighting setup is a very effective way of really making your subject just out of the background. The three lights that are used are:
- The key light - The main light that is used to light the subject up
- The fill light - The light that is used to fill in any shadows on the subject which is usually on the opposite side to the key light
- The edge light - This is the light that is placed behind the subject and lights the top edges of the subject up
As you can see form the image above, the three point lighting setup has created 3 sets of shadows from the 3 lights. As this is animation and not real life we can get away with having just one set of shadows which is usually from the key light. We change this by turning the shadows off from the fill light and the edge light. Below is the image of the sphere and the cube that have been lit using the 3 point lighting setup and have just got shadows showing from the key light
