The Kidd (2010)

Over Christmas I watched a variety of films of all different genres. But certain films stick in your head and others you forget. The film 'The Kid'  is based on the story of Kevin Lewis who also wrote his book, The Kid in 2003. When I watched it I couldn't believe how emotionally captivated I was from the word go. The first 20 minutes or so feel so real, you really just feel like jumping in and saving this little boy from all the abuse from his dad who is an alcoholic and his mum who is just mental. It really makes you think that in the real world, children go through this everyday of the week. Without being reminded, we dont think about it at all. We go through a journey with this boy growing up as he moves between all these set of foster parents and children homes until he finally becomes settles with an older couple who start to get Kevin back on track.

We go on a roller coaster ride with Kevin. We see his high points and we see his low points in life and Rupert Friend (Kevin) does a terrific job of taking us through this journey. We all want him to get through  the terrible times he goes through and constantly we are hit with Kevin being dragged down into more trouble. Apart from some of the fight scenes being a bit fake looking, I cant really fault this film. I do recommend it highly!
