Kendy Ty

Kendy Ty's 'SHUTDOWN' is one of my favourite shorts I have watched recently. One reason is for his use of tracking, two, is for how simple the story is yet he has made it into a masterpiece, and three, his use of sound. Also taking into account that all of his work, not just this one, is shot with a basic Canon 550D and a Standard Tamron lens. No Steadicam, rigs etc.

Iv always been one to look at a piece of film and subtract parts of the film and see what it looks like without them. E.g taking away the sound and seeing its effect without it. In this films case, trying to picture it without the tracking text. We can take away the sound from this piece and the story is still clear through how Kendy has used text and the bits on her eyes. We know that we are looking through her eyes in the POV shots because of the way Kendy has made her vision robotic. Kendy's use of sound makes the film a lot more epic and dramatic but its still quite a calm, chilling piece of film. Their seems to be a lot of information we take in just in 3 minutes. This film easily could have been made longer about this girl having this robotic eye but she wants to be normal again, so we could follow her through this journey of feeling very isolated in this world of 'normal' people with her being the only one who is different.
