Photography Induction Part 1 - Apature

On Monday, we had our first Photography Induction. As I am a self taught Photography, their is tonnes to learn so I was intrigued in taking part in this induction. Straight the way I picked up a few new things about the camera and how to manipulate how an image looks as soon as picture is taken. I found this very useful leaving less work when it comes to editing the images after a shoot. Being a massive user of Photoshop to edit images I found Adjusting the Picture Style on the camera helps towards the final outcome. As he was talking thought the real basics of a digital SLR, I picked up on the different shooting modes that were available which I never ever use as I have been using manual mode from day 1. I still found them very useful.

Shutter Speed - 1/250sec
Aperture - f2.8

Shutter Speed - 1/160sec
Aperture - f1.8

For this small brief we were asked to produce a range of images that demonstrate your ability to effectively use the photographic equipment in the resource. Here are a couple of images that I took during the showing how the use of a shallow depth of field can create an effect on a very simple composition. The two original images are on top of each editing photo. They were shot as .RAW images and were processed into a .TIF images, edited in Photoshop and then finally exported into a . JPG file.

I am looking forward to next weeks Photography Induction where we will be introduced to lighting, I use lighting quite a lot in the shoots I do to this day, whether this is use of natural lighting or harsh light with the use of a flashgun, but again iv never been taught professionally which is why I'm looking forward to this induction.

Camera - Canon 550D
